Sony has today released its PS4 firmware update 4.50, with it comes a bunch of changes that will spice up the experience. However, what so exciting about this update is that it’s available to download right now! But, if you’re one of those who likes to know what updates include before doing so here’s what’s included.

The full PS4 Changelog has been leaked across the internet revealing some interesting additions to the PS4. Notably, you can now post GIFs to activities and social events, you can make a party.

Use an External USB HDD

Yes, you read the above correctly, Sony has included support for external USB sticks. What’s so good about this? It means that to expand your storage, you no longer have to replace the internal drive. Instead, you can use a USB 3.0 compatible drive as long as it has no more than 8TB of capacity.

What can be stored on it? Everything, that’s apps, media, and games all of which can be accessed as if the drive was local.

Boost Mode

This next PS4 firmware update is aimed at those who own a PS4 Pro. Designed to give those games that were not created for the Pro a speed boost, they should now load faster. Additionally, in-game performance will improve thanks to improved frame rates, meaning that lagging games will be a thing of the past.

One thing to note, however, is that Boost Mode does not turn 1080p games into 4K titles. That job is for the developers; they would have to create a console specific port for that to be the case.

“This can provide a noticeable frame rate boost to some games with variable frame rates and can provide frame rate stability for games that are programmed to run at 30Hz or 60Hz. Depending on the game, the increased CPU speed may also result in shorter load times.”

Design and Customization

Regarding the interface design of the software, that too has changes included in this PS4 firmware update. One of the most prominent is the ability to customize; users can now use in-game screenshots as wallpapers. Additionally, there have been changes made to the Quick-Menu and notifications areas, aimed at making them more accessible and easier to use.

In addition to the above changes, there is a whole host of others, which includes improved 2D image presentation for the PSVR. Also for its VR device is a new voice chat feature for Remote Play, which should go down well!
