The MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM) program provides you with graphical user interface (GUI) tools to configure RAID storage systems, based on the LSI 106x controllers used in some of the x64 servers. To determine if your server supports this program, refer to the Product Notes for your platform. I am having a problem with the LSI MegaRAID Software Manager software, any version 12.x through 14.x. Under Windows 8.1, using a 'local standalone' installation of the Megaraid manager software, the login screen is not able to authenticate any local user. HP has written a SoftPaq SP56145 that updates the MegaRAID Storage Manager V11.08.02.06 and resolves the issue. Download the SoftPaq and read the instructions carefully before proceeding. SoftPaq SP56145 may not be the latest available version of the software. but these same instructions are likely to help you get your MegaRAID Storage Manager 11.08.03.0300 version working with other LSI adapters, just be sure to download the proper drivers and firmware.

This article is really about working around the gotchas just seen in MSM 11.08.03.0300. Yeah, I do hope LSI fixes the actual issue, and I've already reported all of this to LSI support.
Detailed walk-throughs below, or take a look at detailed video walk-throughs that also demonstrating how I came to up with these procedures (coming soon).

INSTALLED ALREADY but warnings/errors during install were seen:
If you already saw the errors but finished the install, then tried to launch the MegaRAID icon and logged in, then noticed it then it got stuck, you probably Googled your way to this article. Don't give up yet! You may still get MSM working, just by:

For Windows 2008, just login and Administrator and you're all set, MSM should run despite the errors you saw during install.

For Windows 7, just disable UAC (User Access Control) and reboot, and you're all set, MSM should run despite errors you saw during install.

FRESH INSTALL:
If you follow the detailed instructions in the appropriate section, you should be able to avoid seeing these 2 errors during the MSM installation:

MegaRAID Storage Manager v11.08.03.0300 - InstallShield Wizard Error Occured while re-creating file for adding configuration. The setup cannot continue.

MegaRAID Storage Manager v11.08.03.0300 - Error Ocuured during closing of Configuration File after appending. The setup cannot continue.

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1:

Because the Administrator account is enabled by default, if you login as Administrator (not just an administrative user, but the account actually named Administrator), you will not encounter the install or errors.

1) INSTALL Windows Device Driver Version: 5.2.103

a) Download Windows - 5.2.103 (right-click, Save as, when done, right-click, Save as, Extract all)

b) install this Windows driver, in my case, for the LSI 9265-8i controller, by right-click on the unknown RAID device in Device Manager, choose Update Driver, select the path to the extracted file

2) INSTALL MegaRAID Storage Manager - Support for CacheCade Pro 2.0 Version: 11.08.03.03

a) Download Windows - CC Pro 2.0 (right-click, Save as, when done, right-click, Save as, Extract all)

b) Run 11.08.03.03_Windows_MSMDISK1setup.exe (making sure you're logged in
say yes to any C++ runtimes it offers, choose default Complete Install, and click OK to firewall changes Java offers up
despite no prompts telling you to reboot, you do need to reboot, UI doesn't work after login if you don't reboot first

c) Launch MegaRAID by clicking on the 'MegaRAID Storage Manager' icon on your desktop

d) Login with your local account credentials

You may then upgrade firmware, create arrays, etc, you're all set, once you've committed your changes to the RAID adapter, you'll be prompted to reboot for those changes to take effect. In my case, I'm dual-booting right back to ESXi 5.0 Update 1.

Microsoft Windows 7 x64 SP1:

LSI's workaround to install and run issues is to enabling the normally disabled 'Administrator' account, then logging in as 'Administrator' and installing and running MSM:

discussed here as well:

The only other way to get 11.08.03.0300 to install cleanly and actually function is to just leave Administrator disabled, but disable UAC (User Access Control) entirely. Here's the exact steps.

1) DISABLE User Access Control

Click Start, type UAC, and hit enter to launch 'Change User Account Control Settings', move slider to 'Never notify' (any other setting doesn't seem to work for MSM)

2) INSTALL Windows Device Driver Version: 5.2.103

a) Download Windows - 5.2.103 (right-click, Save as, when done, right-click, Save as, Extract all) (alternatively, use the unsigned version of the same driver, which does list Windows 7 out specifically)

b) install this Windows driver, in my case, for the LSI 9265-8i controller, by right-click on the unknown RAID device in Device Manager, choose Update Driver, select the path to the extracted file

3) INSTALL MegaRAID Storage Manager - Support for CacheCade Pro 2.0 Version: 11.08.03.03

a) Download Windows - CC Pro 2.0 (right-click, Save as, when done, right-click, Save as, Extract all)

b) Run 11.08.03.03_Windows_MSMDISK1setup.exe
say yes to any C++ runtimes it offers, choose default Complete Install, and click OK to firewall changes Java offers up
no need to reboot

c) Launch MegaRAID by clicking on the 'MegaRAID Storage Manager' icon on your desktop

d) Login with your local account credentials

You may then upgrade firmware, create arrays, etc., you're all set, once you've committed your changes to the RAID adapter, you'll be prompted to reboot for those changes to take effect. In my case, I'm dual-booting right back to ESXi 5.0 Update 1.

This page contains information about installing the latest MegaRAID driver downloads using the MegaRAID Driver Update Tool.

MegaRAID drivers are tiny programs that enable your MegaRAID hardware to communicate with your operating system software. Maintaining updated MegaRAID software prevents crashes and maximizes hardware and system performance. Using outdated or corrupt MegaRAID drivers can cause system errors, crashes, and cause your computer or hardware to fail. Furthermore, installing the wrong MegaRAID drivers can make these problems even worse.

Recommendation: If you are inexperienced with updating MegaRAID device drivers manually, we highly recommend downloading the MegaRAID Driver Utility. This tool will download and update the correct MegaRAID driver versions automatically, protecting you against installing the wrong MegaRAID drivers.
