Note: Page 30 of Scott Duff’s book, The M1 Carbine Owner’s Guide, does not list the last batch of Quality H.M.C. serial numbers. Page 209 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition, list the last group of serial numbers “4,632,100 to 4,879,525”.

Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1” on the front and “QUALITY H.M.C. / 4824544” on the rear. The barrel is marked “INLAND MFG. DIV. / GENERAL MOTORS”. There is no date on the barrel. Page 48 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition, states: “Several contractors did not date barrels beyond the end of 1943”. According to page 50, Inland supplied barrels for Quality Hardware. The left rear of the trigger group is marked “Q-TX” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 78). The hammer is marked “LT-Q” which is a Quality Hardware mark that was also used by Rock-Ola (page 89). The magazine release is marked “EP-Q” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 100). The push button safety is smooth and unmarked which is consistent with Quality Hardware and others (page 95). The inside of the operating slide is marked “10” and “UN-Q” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 65). The bolt is marked “SG” on the left lug which is a Saginaw Gear mark (page 36). The side of the recoil plate is marked “.U.” which is an Underwood mark (page 135). The front sight is marked “JQ” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 56). The Type III rear sight is marked “I.R.CO. / 7160060”which is a post WWII replacement mark (pages 29 & 184). The Type II barrel band is marked “//” which is an IBM mark (pages 59). The sling well is marked “Q-RMC” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 108-109). The right side of the buttstock is marked with an Ordnance Department “crossed cannons” cartouche. The inside of the handguard is marked “Q-RMC” which is a Quality Hardware mark (page 138).
Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The rear sight is an adjustable Type III aperture assembly.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock has a pistol grip, metal barrel band with sling loop, sling well, sling pass through and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows some scrapes on the edges. The right side of the butt shows a light 1 ½ inch scratch. The wood various shows small scrapes & light compression marks. The LOP measures 13 1/4 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition as refinished.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright, grey near the muzzle. The rifling is crisp. There is light erosion near the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 2.5. Honda odyssey license plate frame.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish as refinished. The barrel parkerization is a different shade than the rest of the metal. It may have been repeatedly treated with oil. The metal has pin prick surface erosion showing through the finish. It also shows light scrapes & scuffs as well as some thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The barrel shows areas of light thinning. The right side of the receiver shows some thinning consistent with cycling. The screw heads show light use. The markings on the top front of the receiver are faded on the edges. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Quality Hardware M1 Carbine was originally made in 1944. It has been refinished but still has nice markings on the metal & wood. It has lots of Quality Hardware parts as well as other USGI parts. The markings add to its historical value. This M1 Carbine should be fun to shoot and looks nice enough to add to your WWII Collection. Good luck.

To reduce the likelihood of damage during shipping, we may disassemble long guns by removing stocks when it is possible & easy and will not damage the wood or screws. We will also break down takedowns. We have had problems with rough carrier handling breaking the stocks at the wrist, and since we have begun to disassemble, we have not had any breakage. All parts will be individually wrapped. If you would prefer to not have your item disassembled, please let us know as soon as you win the bid.
Your item will be shipped within 1 week of receipt of good funds, usually the next day. You will receive an automatic notification with a tracking number upon shipment, to let you know that we have received funds. (Please obtain a tracking number from your carrier for immediate delivery confirmation of payment). If you are in Southern California, you are welcome to pick your item up and complete the transfer at our shop in Simi Valley (M-F, 8-4 and Saturday By Appointment).
This gun can only be shipped to an FFL or C&R, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. Please include a copy of your C&R or your dealer’s license with payment. These can also be faxed or emailed. We will need CFLC numbers for CA FFL’s to ship. We are FFL dealers and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws.
We always combine on shipping to save you as much as we can. You can generally assume it will be full shipping charge on the first item, 1/2 on the second, 1/3 on the third, etc. Exceptions only arise when the items are going to different locations (different licenses), or when they are exceptionally large, heavy or valuable and cannot be combined.

Layaways are offered on all items, requiring a 20% non refundable down payment within 7 days of the auction’s close and the balance within 60 days. We do not require prior notice to place an item on the layaway. No returns are accepted on layaway items and the item will be considered abandoned after 60 days.
